google logoRight now if you wanted information on something, you’d fire up Google, type in your query, and go through the list of results. Alternatively if you are lazy and you have an Android device, you could say “OK Google” and voice out your question. However according to a report from The Wall Street Journal, Google could be planning a new way of going about getting information.

According to the report, they have suggested that Google could be working on a new, smarter messaging platform. It will sort of combine traditional Google search, but at the same time take advantage of Google’s AI technology and natural language processing found in Google Now and create a chatbot that users can message and chat with in order to get information.

You could also think of it as being similar to certain websites that allows you to chat with support staff, but in this case instead of an actual person, you’ll be chatting with a bot instead. The bot will be able to search the web for information and to answer any questions you might have. This means that you could soon search for information in a more natural way of talking, as opposed to just typing out keywords.

It might also be convenient as you could fire off an IM to one of these bots and then check on the answer later. We’re not sure how popular such a system would be, but it definitely sounds like an interesting idea. When asked to comment, a Google spokeswoman declined to comment so until there is an official announcement, take it with a grain of salt for now.
