nvidia-shield-tablet-04Our mobile devices have certainly come a long way from back in the day of the feature phone, where monochromatic games were all we could play. However looking at phones today, they have certainly caught up fast and are now playing games with high quality graphics that only a high-end computer or a console could achieve back then.

This is why ARM has suggested that it is possible that mobile phones could end up being more powerful than consoles by the end of 2017. For those who are unfamiliar with ARM, the company’s technology is pretty much what’s behind chipsets from Qualcomm, Samsung, and Apple.

The company’s ecosystem director Nizar Romdan spoke at the Casual Connect Europe event in which he was quoted as saying, “Mobile hardware is already powerful. If you take today’s high-end smartphone or tablet, the performance is already better than Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. It’s catching up quickly with Xbox One and PlayStation 4.”

This is obviously not the first time that it has been predicted that mobile gaming could soon become one of the main methods of gaming, but based on what we are seeing, there is still plenty of demand for dedicated living room consoles, but what do you guys think? Do you think it’s possible that our mobile phones could soon outperform the latest gaming consoles?
