google-self-driving-carLast week, we reported that the Isle of Man wanted to become the testing hub for self-driving cars, which makes sense since self-driving cars need to be tested on a variety of roads and different conditions. Turns out that the deputy mayor for transport in London, Isabel Dedring, feels the same way.

According to a report from The Guardian, Dedring claims that the city’s transport chiefs have met with Google and have discussed the idea of bringing their self-driving cars to London for testing. Dedring says, “It’s going to have to work in big cities, so why don’t we start trialling it now? Google have said they are focused on the US, but they’re starting to think about going elsewhere, so we’re in active discussions.”

She also adds, “We met them a few weeks ago to see whether they would do trials here. It is still very early days, but we would be keen for trials to happen in London whenever Google are ready to move them into other countries.” Like we said, wider-scale testing in different conditions makes sense as well.

Especially when you consider that different country drivers have different behaviors and habits, and the road system might have different rules, like driving on the left instead of the right, and etc.
