When you search for something on YouTube on your smartphone via the app, you’ll be able to browse channels and also look at recommended videos. However in a bid to make your search experience better and potentially more relevant, YouTube has started to experiment with placing related cards at the top of search results.

As you can see in the screenshot above, searches will display related cards at the top of the search results. So for example if you were searching for something obscure, YouTube has some related results at the top that might be able to narrow it down further. In a way this reminds us of Google’s image search.

In Google image search if you were to type in a name of a celebrity, sometimes there are cards that suggests that maybe you might be interested in that celebrity’s appearance in a particular movie they are famous for, or maybe for when they were younger, and etc., so like we said, in a way YouTube’s experiment is the same except for videos.

That being said, this is just an experiment for now and there’s no telling if YouTube has plans to make it a permanent change. Also if you don’t see it appear in your YouTube app, it probably just means you weren’t selected for testing, but what do you guys think? Is this a change you’d like to see YouTube make?
