So apparently a reboot of the Tomb Raider movie franchise is in the works, and last we heard Daisy Ridley of Star Wars fame was said to be one of the actresses considered to play the lead role. Ridley even confirmed that she was in talks to possibly take on the role, but unfortunately it looks like that role has been given to someone else.

According to a report from Variety, it has been officially announced that Alicia Vikander will be the person playing Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider movie reboot. For those unfamiliar with the actress, she was cast in movies such as The Danish Girl, Ex Machina, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., and she will also be in the upcoming Jason Bourne movie.

Word on the street is that Vikander was always the studio’s choice for the role, but apparently there was a delay in the announcement as the studio was waiting for a new draft of the script before making any kind of announcement. The movie will see Norwegian Roar Uthaug direct the movie, with Graham Kings of GK Films serving as its producer.

The upcoming reboot is expected to draw inspiration from the current rebooted Tomb Raider games, making Lara Croft feel more like a real human being. No word on when the reboot will be taking place but we reckon we’ll be in for a wait.
