BlackBerry today announced that it has released Marshmallow for the Priv, its first Android-powered handset. The update arrives following a very brief beta program for the Priv Marshmallow update. Do bear in mind that the update is only rolling out today to select Priv models and if yours isn’t on the list you’re going to have to wait for a couple of weeks to get a taste of Marshmallow on your BlackBerry.

Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow for BlackBerry Priv has been released for all models today that were purchased directly from ShopBlackBerry, these include STV100-1 models in the United States and Canada as well as STV100-4 models in the United Kingdom and France.

The much-awaited Marshmallow update for carrier-locked models of this handset, STV100-2 and STV100-3, is going to be released across the globe starting May 3rd. Check with your carrier for more information on precise release dates. All features and improvements that are part and parcel of Marshmallow are already included.

With this update not only do Priv owners get on the latest version of Android but they also receive the latest security patch. BlackBerry has improved the security features with this update aside from making improvements to BlackBerry Hub, Launcher, keyboard as well as battery performance and camera features.
