drivers_license_apple_walletIf you’re an iPhone user, then you have probably come across the Apple Wallet app. It is a pretty handy tool that can be used to store gift cards, loyalty cards, and even boarding passes for your flight. However the good news is that if you’re in the UK, you will soon be able to use it to store your driver’s license.

This is according to the CEO of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency, Oliver Morley, who tweeted out what a digital driving license could look like when stored in Apple Wallet. It looks pretty decent and we have to say that it is a good idea. After all licenses can be lost or forgotten, so hopefully with a digital license on your phone, you will have a backup in case of emergency.

Obviously the UK isn’t the first to think up of this idea. Back in 2014 over in the US, Iowa actually suggested turning licenses into a smartphone app, and just last year Delaware also announced that they were looking into the idea of allowing drivers to carry a digital license. We suppose there are risks, such as losing your phone which would leave you completely license-less, but then we reckon you’ll have bigger things to worry about.

That being said, Morley noted that what was being shown in the photo is merely a prototype of what could be and that as it stands, there is no word on when this feature will be made available to the public. He also notes that this isn’t meant to replace your current license, but rather act as an “add-on”.
