new_instagram_exploreInstagram’s Explore tab typically features photos and/or videos that it thinks you might be interested in based on the people that you currently follow. It also has a section which shows you the photos that people you follow have liked, thus giving you more new photos and profiles to discover.

However it seems that wasn’t enough because Instagram has since announced an update to its Explore section where they will now introduce Topics and Interest Channels. However instead of focusing on photos, it seems that these changes are more towards videos, so if you’re looking for more video clips to watch on Instagram, this could be one way of discovering them.

According to Instagram, “Diverse communities flourish on Instagram — from comedians and bakers to skateboarders and hip-hop dancers. Now, you’ll see new channels filled with the best videos from around the world based on topics you find interesting.” These changes are now live and available to those in the US.

If you’re not in the US, fret not as Instagram will probably roll it out you eventually. It’s actually interesting to see Instagram start to place more emphasis on videos, especially in the face of other apps like Snapchat and Vine where short video clips tend to be pretty popular.
