It has been rumored for the past few weeks that Siri is finally going to make its way to Mac this year, but that’s not all. A new report reiterates claims that Siri is also going to get much smarter because Apple will open it up to third-party applications. The report claims that this new and improved Siri will land later this year, finally making its debut on the company’s notebooks.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Apple is going to show off a new and improved Siri at the Worldwide Developers Conference 2016 later today. This is going to be the first time that the company opens up its digital personal assistant to third-party applications.
This would mean that developers will be able to tap into Siri, enabling users to perform app-specific actions by just giving Siri voice commands, so it will follow in Alexa’s footsteps and call users an Uber or play a specific playlist from a music streaming service.
Siri has never been available on Mac even though it’s been a few years since Apple brought her to life with the iPhone. The digital assistant is available on a variety of mobile products but notebooks haven’t got her yet and this is expected to change with the next major release of OS X.
