instagram-moderationInstagram allows comment moderation to a certain degree. Users are able to delete comments posted on their photos and report certain comments as well that they find offensive. However this is a manual task meaning that if you’re the type that has hundreds or thousands of comments, this could be very tedious.

The good news is that Instagram knows this and has since launched comment moderation tools. However for now it seems that this feature is only available for its business pages, presumably as a way to assure businesses that Instagram can be a safe and healthy platform for their brand/products.

As you can see in the screenshot above, courtesy of TechCrunch, the moderation tool appears to be rather simple and straightforward. Turning it on will see Instagram attempt to “Blocks comments with words or phrases often reported as offensive from appearing on your posts.” For now users will have to rely on Instagram’s system to be smart enough to know what to block.

As TechCrunch points out, this pales in comparison to some of the third-party social media managers that provide more robust tools, but as far as native features are concerned, this is a step in the right direction. No word on if or when Instagram plans on rolling it out to regular users, but we’re sure this is a feature everyone else wouldn’t mind having.
