nintendo-wii-u-review-9As our smartphones are mostly touchscreen, it is obvious that games developed for mobile need to be designed with touchscreen controls in mind. However at the end of the day, it is obvious that there are some games, like action games, fighting games, and racing games, that might benefit from using a physical controller.

There are several brands to choose from in the market today, but it looks like Nintendo could be getting ready to toss their hat into the ring. According to a report from Polygon, Nintendo’s GM of entertainment planning and development, Shinya Takahashi revealed that the company was exploring the idea of maybe creating their own lineup of accessories for smartphone gaming.

Takahashi was quoted as saying, “Physical controllers for smart device applications are available in the market and it is possible that we may also develop something new by ourselves. I believe Nintendo’s way of thinking is to look at whether action games are really not impossible (without a physical controller for smart device applications) to create and how we can make it happen to create such a game.”

Of course this is not a guarantee that Nintendo will create accessories for smartphone games, but they are at the very least looking into the possibility. It would also be a sign to show that they are treating the mobile gaming market very seriously, something that a few years ago the company would have never even considered.
