itunes on apple devicesThe thing about apps is that it lets people embark on new careers without necessarily having to leave their home. Developers can teach themselves how to code from online tutorials, classes, books, and so on, and some can even work part time as a developer while holding down a regular job.

In fact if you’re wondering why getting into development is so attractive, just ask Apple who has paid out a whopping $50 billion to app developers to date. This is according to a tweet by Apple’s CEO Tim Cook who announced, “@AppStore developers have now earned over $50 billion! Congratulations on your success and such inspired creativity.”

Prior to this announcement, Cook teased during WWDC that the Cupertino company was close to reaching the $50 billion mark, and sure enough they have. Note that this is only for Apple’s apps, and we’re not taking into account how much other companies like Google, Amazon, or Microsoft has paid out to developers from their app stores either.

This amount shouldn’t be surprising either especially when you consider that last week, Apple also confirmed that they had sold their billionth iPhone, something of a milestone for the company. So there you have it, if you’re thinking of maybe switching up careers, app development is certainly looking very viable.
