Nexus-6P-Black-01One of the benefits of owning a Nexus handset is pretty much the guarantee that your device will be one of the first devices in the world to receive the latest Android updates whenever they are available. The good news is that if you own the Nexus 6 or the Nexus 6P, it looks like Android 7.0 Nougat is rolling out for you guys as we speak.

This is according to a tweet by the official Nexus Twitter account which reads, “Hi. We’ve started rolling out the Android 7.0 OTA update & your Nexus 6P should receive it in the coming weeks.” As for the Nexus 6, a reply to a question by a user reads, “Hi there. It will also be available for Nexus 6 & you’ll be alerted when the update comes through. Thanks for your patience.”

Unfortunately there are no specific dates mentioned but we guess it’s good to know that the update is being pushed out right now. There is also no mention of the Nexus 5X (in terms of an OTA update, but the factory images are available, thanks to our readers for pointing it out) but presumably it shouldn’t be too far behind given that it is a Nexus. As for the release of the factory image, there is no mention of that but if you are on a Nexus handset then we guess the OTA will be just as good.

As for owners of older Nexus devices, you guys are pretty much out of luck. According to a list published by Google a couple of weeks ago, older devices like the Nexus 7 and the Nexus 5 will not be getting the update.
