wireless-charging-padIf there is one reason why wireless charging hasn’t really taken off the way we thought, it is because for the most part, wireless charging is still slower compared to using a cable. Kind of like how some people might prefer using an Ethernet cable to connect to the internet versus WiFi, and how audiophiles are still pretty insistent on using cables for headphones and speakers rather than go wireless.

That being said, LG has recently taken the wraps off their new wireless charging pad that according to the company, will be able to charge smartphones as fast as a cable could. According to LG, “The 15 W wireless charging pad’s charging speed is three times faster than an existing 5 W wireless charging module. It can charge a completely depleted battery to the level of 50% within 30 minutes because it supplies 15W power to smartphone battery equal to wired quick charger.”

It is also expected to play nicely with most of the wireless charging technology found in smartphones today. No word on how much this wireless charger will cost, but LG is expected to launch it in the US, Europe, and Australia later this month, so if wireless charging tech is something you’re interested in, you’ll want to keep an eye out for this.
