If there is one reason to get a MacBook Pro over the MacBook or MacBook Air, it is that you had the option to choosing more traditional storage mediums instead of going pure SSD. This changed when Apple introduced the 2016 MacBook Pros in which the only storage option they gave users was SSD.

This means that if you wanted to store data that was more than 512GB, you’d have to rely on external storage to make up for the difference, or do you? The folks at OWC have recently gotten their hands on the latest MacBook Pro and based on their teardown, it was revealed that the SSD in the MacBook Pro is actually removable, which in turn also means that it is replaceable and upgradeable.

Of course this also means you’d have to spend extra money on top of whatever you’ve already spent to get a larger SSD, and if you’ve ever shopped for storage before, you know that SSDs are pretty pricey as it is, so going beyond 512GB means you can expect to pay a pretty penny for that extra storage.

Now whether or not customers will actually opt to do that remains to be seen, and is also probably on a “need” basis, but we guess it’s good to know that the option is there should users decide they want to exercise it.
