Stephen HawkingStephen Hawking is probably one of the smartest people alive at the moment, which is why when he speaks, people listen, although according to Hawking during a speech at Oxford last week, the scientist revealed that humanity might only have 1,000 years left, although he notes that this can be solved by going into space and looking for alternative planets.

According to Hawking, “I don’t think we will survive another 1,000 years without escaping our fragile planet. I therefore want to encourage public interest in space, and I have been getting my training in early.” As it stands there has been quite a bit of research being done with regards to sending humans to space and to other planets such as Mars where humans will try to live.

He also adds, “I believe that life on Earth is at an ever-increasing risk of being wiped out by a disaster, such as a sudden nuclear war, a genetically engineered virus, or other dangers. I think the human race has no future if it doesn’t go to space.”

Whether or not we can accomplish this within the next 1,000 years remains to be seen, although prior to this Hawking did predict that we might not even make it that far as within the next 100 years, we could be very well looking at the robot apocalypse, which is why Hawking and other big names in the tech industry like Elon Musk are looking for ways to prevent that.
