nintendo-switchGiven that the upcoming Nintendo Switch appears to be both a mobile and home console, some are probably wondering how its battery fares. After all what’s the use of a mobile console if it only lasts for a couple of hours, right? Also more importantly, can one switch out the battery should it run low or if its cycles diminish?

The bad news is that apparently you won’t be able to do that. This is according to an FCC filing (via Engadget) for the Nintendo Switch that revealed that its battery will not be removable. However as Engadget points out, the version reviewed by the FCC is a production prototype. These prototypes more or less indicate the final version but it is possible that Nintendo could make some changes last minute to make the batteries removable, although you probably shouldn’t get your hopes up just yet.

At the moment it is unclear as to what kind of battery life we are even looking at to begin with, so it’s hard to feel bummed out by this news. Let’s not forget that its rumored use of USB-C also means that you could get an external battery pack to work with it as well. For all we know, the Switch’s battery life is good enough where you probably don’t need to swap out batteries, but this is just speculation for now.

Nintendo is expected to make the details known come 12th of January, 2017, so check back with us then for updates.
