LeEco Smart Mountain Bike

LeEco Smart Mountain Bike

We saw LeEco “Super Bike for the Future” last generation at an event in October in San Francisco, where the company’s CRO North America, Danny Bowman unveiled simultaneously a Smartphone (LeEco pro 3), a VR Headset,  a TV, a Smart Bike and a car (LeSee).

LeEco is coming to CES 2017 with its new generation of smart bicycles that will retail for the first time in the U.S. powered by an Android-based BikeOS that the user operate from an embedded 4-inch touchscreen display. Since I have not seen the new LeEco bicycle yet, I am publishing my photos of the previous LeEco BikeOS version, shot in October 2016 and I will update with the new screenshot of the new app when I have the opportunity to see the demo on the showfloor during the week.

"THE POWER OF A SMARTPHONE, INTEGRATED IN A BIKE"On the specs side, the SmartBike model seen in October that is not sold in the U.S. market had a 8000 mAh battery, and the new LeEco Smart Road Bike and LeEco Smart Mountain Bike both feature a 6000 mAh battery, to power a Quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor that runs the Android powered BikeOS. The previous software was Android 4.4 customized. The new electronic hardware is IP54 water resistant. That’s the power of a smartphone, integrated in a bike.

The frame, fork, seat post, handlebar and wheels of the Smart Road Bike, are made of Toray T700 carbon fiber while the Smart Mountain Bike gets that material only for its frame and handlebar. Both machines are packed with embedded sensors: GPS/GLONASS, compass, accelerometer, barometer, light level, wheel speed and crank speed sensors.

If you would like to see your heart rate continuously displayed on the 4-inch screen integrated on the handlebar, it is possible since both bicycles are compatible with third-party ANT+ heart rate and power sensors.

The main useful feature is the turn-by-turn navigation customized for bicycle from HERE maps (see photos of previous version of the application in the photo gallery). You can play online and offline music and uses the onboard walkie talkie to communicate with other nearby compatible Le Eco bikes.

"THE ABILITY TO BE NOTIFIED WHEN SOMEONE TRIES TO STEAL YOUR GEO-TRACKABLE SMART RIDE IS GENIUS"I guess that this neat communication features is operated from the handle just like it was in the older model (See picture of the former version, the new one might be different). The beauty of having a bike packed with electronic is the ability to be notified when someone tries to steal your geo-trackable Smart ride is genius, as well as setting off the on-board and tracking its location with the mobile application.

Last but not least, I bet you can see your heart rate on the display like with the previous BikeOS, once you use a third-party heart rate sensor (see photos of the previous model).

LeEco Smart Road Bike, is a CES Innovation Honoree, weighs 18.5 pounds (8.38 kg), features an 11-speed one-by drivetrain, a single chain ring up front and a wide-range cassette in back eliminating two-derailleur coordinated shifting. On the brake side, you get a lightweight brake set with dual-pivot technology, paired with shift/brake levers, mounted to the handlebar

At 26.9 pounds, LeEco Smart Mountain Bike is a little heavier, probably because it has less components made of carbon fiber. The 11-speed one-by drivetrain model also utilizes a single chain ring crankset, a rear derailleur, and a wide-range 11-42 tooth cassette. On the brake side, you get a sturdy hydraulic brake set.
