While Sony might not be focusing as much on some markets anymore, it doesn’t mean that the rest of the world will be neglected as far as Sony’s smartphone efforts are concerned. In fact it seems that Sony could have a mid-range handset in the works codenamed “Pikachu”, thanks to a recent sighting on GFXBench.

According to the benchmarks, the handset in question is of the mid-range variety. This is evidenced in its screen which is set at 5-inches with a 720p HD resolution. Its chipset appears to be from MediaTek and it is an octa-core chipset clocked at 2.3GHz. We are also looking at 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, a 21MP rear-facing camera, and a 7MP front-facing camera.

No word on its battery but it does appear to be running on Android 7.0 Nougat “Sony Edition”, which we can only take to mean that Sony has applied their own UI on top of it. This is actually not the first time that the Sony “Pikachu” has been spotted. It has been speculated that this handset and the Sony G3112 could be the same thing.

In any case we guess we should be able to find out soon enough as Sony has confirmed that they will be at MWC 2017, so check back with us towards the end of the month for the details if there are any to be had.
