GIFs are short animated pictures that are great for sharing online when simple pictures or even emoticons just won’t do. As you can probably imagine, GIFs are very popular on the internet, so it’s never surprising when an online service incorporates them into its product. Facebook already lets you use GIFs on the social network and now you can create one using its official iOS app.

According to a new report, Facebook has started testing a built-in GIF creator in its official iOS app. Quite a few users have been included in this test automatically.

To find out if you’re one of those users, access the camera in the Facebook app on an iOS device and you should see an option titled “GIF” placed alongside “Normal.”

The option enables users to create short GIFs using the app. They can even add all of the photo effects and frames that Facebook has made available in the app to the GIF that they create.

Users then have the option to share the GIF to their Facebook story, post it to their profile or save it locally on the device should they want to use it anywhere else.

It’s unclear right now when this built-in GIF creator is going to be released to all Facebook users on iOS devices. What’s not known at this point in time is that when this functionality is going to be provided to Facebook users on Android devices.
