Today, Damson unveiled its S-Series home wireless surround sound system, with Dolby Atmos available today for pre-orders for less than a thousand dollar! The S-Series costs $799.99 in the U.S. (/£799.99 / €849.99 in Europe) and features a soundbar, subwoofer, 2 S-Cubes and a Dolby Atmos Speaker, enabling the system to decode all Dolby formats, including Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, and Dolby Atmos.

Dolby Atmos is an immersive sound experience available in some movie theaters across the country, a technology that places speakers above the audience and places the origin of the sound in a place in 3D space. In regular 5.1 or 7.1 sound systems, when you need to make noises come from behind the audience, you just play the sounds in the speakers placed there. With Dolby Atmos, instead of just reproducing the sound in a specific speaker, it is played from a specific location in 3D space, to make the experience more realistic. Dolby Atmos allows sound designers to mix up to 128 sound elements into up to 64 speakers simultaneously.

With the Damson S-series, you can get that experience with fewer speakers at home, without having to plug any cables, except for the power. During my meeting with Damson Global CEO & Co-founder James Talbot, I listened to various movie trailers, and videos with the Atmos sound and the quality and experience were very good, for a system with way fewer speakers than what you find in movie theaters.

The technology is now available in some smartphones, tablets and most recently Apple and Netflix implemented Dolby Atmos in their TV and software, respectively.
