It is no secret that when it comes to retailers, Amazon is one of the companies to beat. Not only does Amazon offer a ton of products across a wide range of categories, but what sets the company apart is their logistics network, in which they are capable of sending out products that arrive on the same day itself.

This is something that Amazon’s retailers are working on, such as Target who earlier this year acquired a company to help facilitate same-day deliveries. However it seems that Target isn’t quite done yet because in a press release, Target has announced that they will be acquiring another company by the name of Shipt that will also help to improve the company’s same-day delivery capabilities.

The acquisition is said to be worth $550 million in cash, and according to Target, “will leverage its network of stores and Shipt’s proprietary technology platform and community of shoppers to quickly and efficiently bring same-day delivery to guests across the country.” The company is also expecting that they’ll be able to implement the services across half of Target’s stores by early 2018, and across the majority of Target’s stores in all major markets by the 2018 holiday season.

According to John Mulligan, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Target, “With Shipt’s network of local shoppers and their current market penetration, we will move from days to hours, dramatically accelerating our ability to bring affordable same-day delivery to guests across the country.”
