Several major car manufacturers have started shifting to all-electric cars so we’ll eventually see many of them gradually phase out gas and diesel-powered models from their lineup in the coming years. According to a new report, Fiat Chrysler will be one of those manufacturers, as the company is expected to ditch diesel-powered engines by 2022 in favor of electric motors.

The Financial Times reports today that the Italian-American car manufacturer will end production of all vehicles powered by its diesel engines come 2022. Fiat Chrysler manufacturers vehicles under the Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Chrysler, Maserati, Ram, Dodge, and Jeep brands.

Fiat Chrysler is reportedly going to make a four-year plan public on June 1st which will detail how it plans to phase out diesel vehicles. It merits mentioning here that Fiat Chrysler is one of the few car manufacturers who has been accused of not complying with emissions rules.

It has recently settled its emissions lawsuit with the U.S. Department of Justice and will now recall 104,000 vehicles and also pay a hefty civil penalty of an undisclosed amount.

Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has previously said that he expects most cars made by 2025 to be hybrid or fully electric. It’s clear that the company will be jumping on the bandwagon as well.
