Last year Google launched what they called AIY kits. These are basically DIY kits for those who are looking to explore the concepts of AI. There was nothing wrong with these kits except that it required users to have their Raspberry Pi amongst other things, which meant that those who were completely new would have to source these other components themselves.

However that has changed because Google has announced updated AIY Projects kits for 2018. According to Google, “To make setup easier, both kits have been redesigned to work with the new Raspberry Pi Zero WH, which comes included in the box, along with the USB connector cable and pre-provisioned SD card. Now users no longer need to download the software image and can get running faster. The updated AIY Vision Kit v1.1 also includes the Raspberry Pi Camera v2.”

This means that right out of the box, users will be able to get themselves up and running, or at least for the most part since the major components/hardware needed have already been supplied. Google has also announced the launch of an AIY companion app that will help setting up the entire kit easier for users.

For those who are interested, the AIY Voice Kit and AIY Vision Kit are available via Target and are priced at $50 and $90 respectively.
