As you guys might have heard, back in 2017 Microsoft announced that Minecraft would be getting cross-platform support which included Nintendo’s latest console, the Switch. Now it seems that in addition to cross-platform support, Minecraft for the Nintendo Switch will be getting Xbox Live achievements as well.

This was initially spotted by content creator Patrick Maka where Xbox Live achievements for Minecraft on the Switch was discovered. It also appears that this will be applicable to other non-Microsoft platforms that Minecraft is playable on, such as iOS and Android. This has since been confirmed by the folks at Polygon who quotes a Minecraft spokesperson who said, “We can confirm that Minecraft players on Nintendo Switch will soon be able to earn achievements tied to Xbox Live once the Bedrock update is released.”

This is a rather interesting development, but in a way it sort of makes sense as the Switch currently does not have its own native achievement system tied to the console. Also missing from the list is Sony’s PS4 but presumably that is because Sony uses their own trophy system in place of achievements.

No word on when the Bedrock update for Minecraft for the Switch will be released, but presumably it could be soon as the update was released for other platforms last year, and the fact that the achievements are showing up seems to hint that it is close.
