In the past the admin status in group chats for WhatsApp only gave those admins a limited amount of power/control over the group. However for WhatsApp users who are admins and are looking for a bit more control over a group setting, it seems that the Restrict Group feature is rolling out on Android.

For those unfamiliar with this feature, it was actually reported a while back that WhatsApp was testing out the feature in the beta version of the Android app. What it does is that admins can now further restrict users in the chat to what they can or cannot do, at least in terms of editing the group info.

However it seems that for now the restriction feature is only for the group info section, but perhaps in the future it could be expanded to cover more features. As noted by WABetaInfo, users of the Android version of WhatsApp will need to update to the latest version of the app which is 2.18.132, after which the feature should be made available.

They also note that the feature is rolling out to iOS and Windows Phone users as well, although as an iOS user I have yet to see the feature on my phone so maybe it’s not fully rolled out just yet.
