In a way it is a little ironic when you think about how when smartphones were on the rise, developers were rushing to bring desktop apps onto mobile. For example services that were typically accessed via the desktop, such as Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Skype, and so on were quickly given mobile apps.

However fast forward to today, a lot of those mobile apps now have desktop counterparts, such as WhatsApp, LINE, KakaoTalk, and more. In fact it looks like Google is joining the crowd with the launch of Android Messages for the web. “Today and over the next week, we’ll begin rolling out Messages for web, one of our top-requested features that lets you send and receive texts from your computer.”

“To get started, select ‘Messages for web’ in the menu of your Messages mobile app. On Messages for web, you can send stickers, emoji, and attach images in addition to sending text.” Note that Android Messages for the web isn’t Google’s foray into launching desktop versions of its messaging apps.

Previously Google had also launched Allo for web but we guess for those who use Android Messages, then this could be a feature worth checking out. As Google states, the rollout will be staggered so if you don’t see it available yet, not to worry as it should eventually find its way to you.
