The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 succeeds the Galaxy Z Flip7 that we covered last year, building on Samsung’s compact clamshell foldable with a slimmer design, a redesigned AI-powered FlexWindow, and new software features aimed at making the cover display more useful. While the hardware upgrades are relatively modest, Samsung continues refining one of the most popular flip-style foldables on the market.
Like its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Flip8 combines a full-size smartphone with a compact pocketable design. Samsung says the new model weighs just 180g and measures 6.1mm thick when unfolded, making it the company’s thinnest and lightest Flip to date.
Slimmer Design With Refined Materials
Samsung continues to improve the durability of its foldable lineup. The Galaxy Z Flip8 features an Advanced Armor Aluminum frame, Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protecting the cover display, and a glass fiber-reinforced polymer rear panel. It also retains an IP48 water resistance rating.
Although visually similar to last year’s model, the thinner profile makes the Flip8 feel more like a conventional smartphone when unfolded while remaining compact enough to easily fit into a pocket or small bag.
Larger Displays and a Smarter FlexWindow
The Galaxy Z Flip8 keeps the 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display introduced with the previous generation while pairing it with a 4.1-inch Super AMOLED FlexWindow cover display. Both screens support Samsung’s Vision Booster technology for improved outdoor visibility, while the main display features an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate.
The most significant improvement comes from the software. Samsung has redesigned the FlexWindow experience to make room for more apps and AI features on the cover display. Users can access notifications, widgets, shortcuts and supported applications without opening the phone.
The cover display also gains Now Brief, which surfaces personalized information throughout the day, while Gemini Intelligence can now perform connected actions directly from the FlexWindow using either the side button or natural voice commands.
Cameras
Like the Galaxy Z Flip7, the Galaxy Z Flip8 features a 50MP wide camera paired with a 12MP ultra-wide camera. While the camera hardware remains largely unchanged, Samsung has updated ProVisual Engine to improve image processing, delivering more natural skin tones, enhanced portrait effects, and improved overall image quality.
For selfies and video calls, the Flip8 includes a 10MP front-facing camera, while the foldable design lets users take advantage of the higher-quality rear cameras for selfies using the FlexWindow preview.
Creative Tools and Software
Samsung continues to build on the unique shooting experience offered by the Flip form factor.
Flex Mode enables hands-free photography and video recording from multiple angles without requiring a tripod. Camcorder Grip with a new Zoom Rocker provides a more traditional camcorder-style shooting experience, while Super Steady now adds a new Horizontal Lock mode to improve video stabilization.
Samsung also introduces FlipShot, allowing users to customize the FlexWindow while capturing mirror selfies, and Mirror View, which turns the cover display into a full-size mirror before taking a photo.
The Galaxy Z Flip8 also benefits from Samsung’s latest Galaxy AI platform, including Now Brief, Now Nudge, Gemini Notebook, and deeper Gemini Intelligence integration. One UI 9 also introduces an AI Assistant Activity dashboard, allowing users to review AI-generated actions while providing expanded privacy controls through Samsung Knox.
Hardware and Battery
Powering the Galaxy Z Flip8 is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor, paired with 12GB of RAM and either 256GB or 512GB of storage.
The phone includes a 4,300mAh dual battery supporting 25W wired charging, 15W wireless charging, and Wireless PowerShare. Connectivity includes 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and support for both a physical Nano SIM and eSIM.
Pricing and Availability
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 starts at $1,199.99 and is available with 256GB or 512GB of storage.
Pre-orders begin today, with general availability scheduled for August 7, 2026. Samsung is offering up to $1,200 in eligible trade-in credits, or up to $200 in Samsung Credit without a trade-in during the pre-order period.
The Galaxy Z Flip8 is available in Graphite, Cream and Pink, while Mint is offered exclusively through Samsung.com.
