For the most part, Netflix’s original TV series usually runs for about 13 episodes per season. However it appears that with the upcoming season 2 of Marvel’s Iron Fist, Netflix will be breaking protocol and will launch the second season with only 10 episodes, 3 episodes shorter than all the other Marvel TV series that have been released to date.However this does not mean that Netflix has lost their confidence with Iron Fist (which admittedly did not receive the same favorable reviews as its counterparts). Instead Netflix seems to be addressing some of its critics who feel that the platform’s shows have a pacing issue, so by scaling it back it should help the story progress faster.
Cindy Holland, Netflix’s VP of original programming commented on this during the Television Critics Association summer press tour where she was quoted as saying, “In some of the earlier negotiations and deals that we did with third-party studios, we were sort of hamstrung a little bit by the convention of the 13-episode cable series pattern. And if you look at the content that we’ve been making out of Netflix Studios and even with third-party partners now, often the seasons are generally no more than 10 episodes.”
Will this result in a better and faster-paced Iron Fist? We guess we’ll have to wait and see. Iron Fist’s second season is currently scheduled for a launch on the 7th of September.
