Verizon Moto Z Play Gets Android 8.0 Oreo

Google released the near-final beta build of Android P yesterday and yet there are still devices which haven’t been updated to Android 8.0. The Moto Z Play on Verizon is one of those devices and the country’s largest mobile carrier has finally started rolling out the Oreo update for this device today.

The Moto Z Play was launched back in 2016 and like all Android smartphones, it’s eligible to receive two major platform updates. The handset came with Marshmallow out of the box and received its Nougat update in March last year.

Motorola released Oreo for the unlocked version of the Moto Z Play a couple of months ago and Verizon is now finally rolling out Oreo for this device on its network, which is actually called the Moto Z DROID Edition.

Verizon is rolling out software version ODN27.76-12-30-2 for the device on its network. It brings all of the features that we have come to expect from Android 8.0 Oreo such as picture-in-picture mode for compatible apps, notifications improvements, UI tweaks, autofill API, and more.

Verizon has now started rolling out the Oreo update for the Moto Z Play on its network. The update is rolling out in phases so it may be a while before the update goes live for all users.
