Amazon Boasts That Kindle Is Thinner
Posted on November 22, 2009 9:14 AM

Is Amazon feeling the heat from Barnes & Noble’s Nook eBook reader? Well, if you’re the type who likes to read between the lines, maybe the statement from an Amazon PR guy might give off that vibe. He reminds us that the Kindle is 40% thinner, 10% lighter and has double the battery life compared to the Nook, not to mention that the Kindle is currently available, while the Nook won’t be shipping to you just yet. - that last one is hard to get around...
Nook sold out for the holidays
Posted on November 20, 2009 8:05 PM

Guess the Nook is the Wii of last year - it is already sold out for the holidays according to the B&N Web site. You'll be greeted by the message, "The hottest holiday gift is out of stock. Order the Nook today to be first in line for the new year." on their page, which is somewhat similar to what happened when the Kindle ran out of stock. Amazingly enough, Barnes & Noble has yet to ship a single unit of the Nook, making us excited to see the full sales figure potential of the Nook in the long run. Would those who are disappointed make the jump to the Amazon Kindle instead as their second-choice ebook reader?
Nook Accepting Gift Cards For Ebooks Soon
Posted on November 17, 2009 9:00 AM

It looks like Barnes & Noble has taken some steps to tackle the issue of its Nook eBook reader not accepting gift cards and certificates. Starting from somewhere mid-December, users will be able to use physical gift cards and online gift certificates, which will certainly be greeted with much enthusiasm, especially since the holidays are around the corner. Do you have any Barnes & Noble gift cards that you want to use for eBooks on your Nook?

Posted on November 17, 2009 4:40 AM

Folks who have already pre-ordered the Nook ebook reader on the Barnes & Noble site will be pleased to know that shipping commences this December 18th, where it ought to arrive at your doorsteps in time for Christmas. Those who want one even earlier than that might want to try their luck and heading to a physical B&N store there, as selected stores have announced that the Nook is ready for a November 30th release.
Kindle For PC App In Beta
Posted on November 10, 2009 8:05 AM

With the Barnes & Noble Nook getting a good reception, Amazon certainly isn’t going to sit back and let things be. After the iPhone Kindle app, there is the Kindle for PC app, albeit it’s still in Beta. While the app won’t support other formats aside from Kindle ebooks, it’s still a fairly good reader all, though we suspect folks who own an actual Kindle would be happier to stick to their Kindle hardware. If you want to give this a try on your computer, check it out here. If you’re using a Mac, unfortunately there isn’t a Mac version just yet.
New Nook Pre-orders To Ship In Dec
Posted on November 9, 2009 12:22 AM

It looks like Barnes & Noble’s Nook is going to get off to a flying start in the e-reader business, so much so that the company has already begun telling new customers not to expect delivery on the device (which will be released soon) until the 2nd week of December. Customers who pre-ordered should expect shipment by the end of November, and if you’re placing a pre-order now, expect it to ship around December 11th or so. Looks like Amazon’s Kindle is up for a tough fight.
Barnes & Noble gift card does not work with eBooks
Posted on November 6, 2009 11:05 AM

Some guy known as Dave had a Nook pre-ordered for him from the local Barnes & Noble store, picking up a $100 gift card in the process to kickstart the eBook collection. Unfortunately, when the bloke tried to buy a few books virtually, he realized that the gift card was useless, and this without having the staff at Barnes & Noble inform him earlier. Hopefully not too many people will suffer the same fate this holiday season.
Barnes & Noble Sued Over Nook
Posted on November 2, 2009 10:50 PM

It looks like the eBook reader wars are going to heat up, and despite Barnes & Noble recently unveiling it’s answer to Amazon’s Kindle, it looks set to have to defend itself against a suit from Spring Design. The latter announced its Alex eBook reader just a few days before Barnes & Noble unveiled the Nook, and claims that they had a NDA (non-disclosure agreement) with Barnes & Noble. Apparently Barnes & Noble misappropriated trade secrets in creating the Nook. We’re suspect that Amazon is quite happy with this latest development, wouldn’t you?
Nook e-book reader from Barnes & Noble
Posted on October 21, 2009 6:05 AM

Barnes & Noble has finally made its Nook e-book reader official, where it will come with a pair of displays (don't confuse this with the Spring Design Alex), where the top will be a 16-color e-ink screen while the bottom is a full color 3.5" touchscreen LCD display which will be used to check out your library's contents or even function as a virtual keyboard (albeit a tiny one) for input purposes. Other features include 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity, native PDF, EPUB and various eReader format support, 2GB of internal memory, a microSDHC memory card slot, audio playback and the ability to "loan" out your e-book to friends with compatible devices for up to a couple of weeks. Expect the Nook to hit the market sometime this November for $259. At that price point, the folks at Amazon has gotta be worried. [Press Release]
