Ford is currently purring over the sales figures of its Ford SYNC, as the company’s popular voice-controlled communications and infotainment system has now been installed on more than 2 million Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles. Making the deal sweeter is the fact that the first SYNC systems were delivered in fall 2007, and it only took Ford 10 months since it delivered its 1-millionth SYNC-equipped vehicle to break the 2-million barrier. The Ford SYNC was built on the Microsoft Windows Embedded Automotive software platform, and allows users to control devices such as mobile phones and digital media players via simple voice commands, the vehicle’s steering wheel, or radio controls.
