This doesn’t look like the safest bike to ride around town with, but if you’re hot on green technology, you might just be willing to risk your life for it. The bike we’re talking about is the THEKPV (The Hybrid Electric Kinetic Photovoltaic Vehicle), a solar-powered bicycle that sports a 50W array of solar panels and has a capacitor for boosting its acceleration capabilities. There is regenerative braking, solar cells, and a mains charging outlet, all in a vehicle that weighs 44 pounds. The bike itself is equipped with a 396Wh battery pack, one that can be recharged in 15 to 30 minutes and harvests kinetic energy that is converted into a direct current and stored in a bank of ultracapacitors.
