Is there a rave party you’re planning to attend in the future? If you are, you might want to take a look at the GloSpex which honestly looks like the perfect accessory for a rave party-goer. If the photo above did not already give it away, the GloSpex are basically a pair of shades that lights up, but if you’re already dismissing it because you think that having light shone into your eyes continuously is a silly notion, you might want to hold off on your judgement just yet.
According to Kevin Donahue, the person who developed the GloSpex, what makes it unique is that even though light does emit from the glasses, it does not actually shine into your eyes. He has managed to develop a way for the lens area to light up while projecting the light forward, thus apparently allowing the viewer to see through the lenses clearly as if there were no light at all.
This is reportedly based on a principle called total internal reflection, which Kevin has achieved by trapping the light in clear plastic. The light is then said to bounce of light diffusing pixels with a reflective backing, which allows for one way light emission but supposedly allows for the display of images and logos as well (hello product placement?).
The GloSpex is currently a Kickstarter project and has since raised $7,473 at the time of posting, which is about three quarters to Kevin’s goal of $10,000.
