Skype performanceBesides using Skype for instant messaging and video chats, a musician has found a way to use the service to his advantage – by giving his fans personal one on one concerts over the internet. Denison Witmer, a singer/songwriter, had to turn down a tour to spend time with his wife and newborn child but he still wanted to keep performing for other people.  Fortunately with the technology available today – he managed to make it happen.

For $25, Witmer’s fans will get to hear him play a song (or two) and chat with him after the performance. First they need to agree on a time and date, and then basically just answer the Skype call when it’s time to watch Witmer play. Songs have to be requested beforehand – with 9 albums under his belt, he’s bound to need some preparation especially if a song requested is an older one.

It’s a very interesting concept that diehard fans will no doubt appreciate and would gladly pay for – I’m surprised it hasn’t caught on in a big way yet. Perhaps in the future, when/if a major pop star brings it to the spotlight. If you’re a fan of Denison Witmer and you’re keen on watching him perform for you over Skype head here to purchase a performance.
