samsung patent

Earlier this week, the South Korean technological giant was granted a patent for a “dual screen design for a terminal for portable mobile communication”. The patent which was numbered D658,173, was filed last year on April 7 and lists Kim Dong-Hun as an inventor. The design that was filed features two 7-inch tablets attached by a hinge to create a clamshell style dual screen tablet. It also comes with a remote control device which reports indicate is a business-oriented tool meant for use during presentations or other business related endeavors.

One possible scenario for usage can pan out with the bottom screen being used as a virtual keyboard and the top one as word processing app comes to mind but that would include the rarely favorable non-tactile typing that you get with non-physical keyboards. Other dual-screen devices have also been launched but the differences are vast in one aspect; its popularity. For example, the Sony Tablet P which came with a rounded outer shell meant that it never lay flat, included exclusive apps by Sony but as of late there hasn’t been much news about it.

The second device which is known for its dual screens is the Nintendo DS and that is used popularly for gaming and with respect to the Sony Tablet P, this one has seen a lot of success. Of course the patent does bring along a cornucopia of possibilities as to what Samsung could possibly be doing with it but as for a definite explanation, or a possible confirmation if it could be what the next Samsung tablet will look like, it looks like we’ll just have to wait and see.
