Heads up PlayStation Vita owners, it looks like your handheld gaming console will be getting one additional new feature later on today. Sony has announced that later today, Skype for the PlayStation Vita will be available for download via the PlayStation Store. It will be a free app and it will allow Vita owners to make both Skype calls and video calls via their device and will utilize the consoles front and rear-facing cameras and will connect via 3G or WiFi.

It should also be noted that Skype for the Vita will be able to run in the background of your Vita. This will allow Vita owners to answer Skype calls while playing their games, pausing it in the process and allowing gamers to resume their game after their calls. Additional features of the Skype for Vita can be found at Skype’s website or check out the video below.
