whatsapp-voice-messages

It was back in June when WhatsApp announced that it had a truly global user base of 250 million people. Today it announced that the figure has swelled up to 300 million, with 20 million users each in India, Spain, Mexico and Germany. So it goes without saying that WhatsApp is perhaps the most popular cross platform messaging service out there. Some 11 billion messages are sent and around 20 billion are received every single day, Jan Koum the co-founder and CEO reveals that the service handles around 325 million photos every day as well. They’ve introduced a new feature which will make it even easier to communicate with your friends and family through WhatsApp. The service now allows you to send voice messages in real time.

Koum said that this feature was developed over the last six months. This push-to-talk voice messaging feature has been rolled out for WhatsApp apps for iPhone, Android, Nokia, Windows Phone and BlackBerry. Sending a voice message is very easy, just tap and hold the microphone icon to record, release the button to send it. There’s no time limit for the recording and the app will automatically switch volume from the speaker when the device is held at arm’s length to soft when the user presses their device to their ear. Like it lets senders see when their message has been seen, a blue microphone icon will inform senders when their voice message has been heard.
