Blicko, a Kickstarter project at the moment, happens to be a music playback system that can be accessed with a URL on virtually any device, making it a great way for you to enjoy your music in a social experience unlike any other. How does Blicko’s URL system work exactly? It ain’t too difficult, where those around it will use their smartphones to navigate to a certain URL address, where the users on two of the smartphones will then search and queue some songs, where the queue will then be populated on a third handset that also connects to the same URL. In a nutshell, the Blicko is a plug and play music device that can be remote controlled using any browser.
When the Blicko music box is connected to your speakers and Wi-Fi network, everyone around basically has a say in what kind of tunes will be played back, and the number of music streaming libraries supported by Blicko reads like a Who’s Who list – including the likes of Spotify, WiMP, YouTube, and SoundCloud.
Of course, you can always maintain full control of your box yourself, or share the URL with your friends so that they too, can pick and choose their own music, in addition to queueing and voting on tracks. Users are identified by their social network logins, where they can also opt to share their activity in real time. Will it be able to pick up enough funding to be realized in due time?
See below screen shots of the desktop and the mobile application with explanations from the Blicko Team 9we got this over email):
1) Blicko desktop app, Queue view: “This is the default view for same box URL but using a desktop computer (e.g. laptop). It shows the queue and a number of admin-menu options to the left. For example you can change settings and even schedule playlists and playback actions (play, pause) to occur at certain times.”
2) Blicko desktop app, Settings: “This shows the settings for the box where you can toggle which music source (Spotify, YouTube, SoundCloud etc.) should be active.”
3) Blicko mobile app, Menu (left) and Queue (right):
“Menu – Show the slide-in menu with various options and views.
Queue – After I queued a couple of songs in the result by clicking the + symbol”
4) Blicko mobile app, Search (left) and Search Queued (right):
“Search – Results after a keyword search. The results contains songs from multiple sources (Spotify, Soundcloud, Youtube) etc.
