accelerometersSo on the surface, it seems that the iPhone 6’s hardware isn’t much to shout about. The jokes on the internet are suggesting that Apple’s iPhone 6 hardware specs are two years too late, and we suppose on paper it is true. After all most Android phones these days are quad-core powered and have 2GB of RAM and more.

That being said, it seems that under the hood of the new iPhones, it tells a different story. According to Chipworks’ (via MacRumors) teardown of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, they have found that the new iPhones come equipped with two new accelerometers which not only helps to improve power management, but allows for a better user experience.

The components in question are supplied by Bosch and InvenSense. The difference in the components is that the InvenSense is more sensitive and can draw more power. However the Bosch accelerometer has a faster start up time. So what does this mean for the end-user? Basically if the phone detects that you might not need the full power of the InvenSense, it will turn to the Bosch chip instead, like when rotating the screen or for pedometer functionality.

Like we said, this will allow the phone to draw less power when not needed, and with the faster start up time from the Bosch sensor, it will also lead to a better user experience. Chipworks states that Apple could have gotten away with just using the InvenSense component, but the addition of the Bosch sensor is an example of Apple’s “elegant engineering”.
