vlc iosThe VLC app seems to have a somewhat tumultuous relationship with the iTunes App Store. The app was first announced several years ago before it was pulled, and it was only last year that the app made its triumphant return to the iTunes App Store before it was pulled again shortly after the release of iOS 8.

It is unclear as to why the developers had decided to pull the app, but the good news is that it looks like it will be making a comeback. This is according to the lead developer Felix Paul Kuehne who posted on the VLC forums that the app will be returning and that the updated version had already been submitted to Apple for approval.

Responding to a question asking whether the app will return, Kuehne wrote, “It will be again, but probably early next year due to the iTunes Connect holiday shutdown.” Like we said it is unclear as to why the app was even pulled following iOS 8, but either way for those who did not get the opportunity to download the app, you will have to wait until 2015 to do so.

However for those who did download the app, you will be able to reinstall it, assuming that you downloaded it to iTunes. If you downloaded it via your phone and did not make any backups, we guess you’d be out of luck and will have to wait just like everyone else.
