A lot has been said and written about Tizen over the last couple of years. Samsung is developing this platform to cover a wide variety of devices, and it has already shown off a couple, with the first Tizen smartphone being formally announced just yesterday. In 2015 the company plans to keep Tizen front and center. A post on Samsung’s official blog states that the company is going to release a “flood of devices” powered by Tizen in 2015.

There’s no denying Samsung’s claim. The company has seemingly made its mind to push Tizen in the mainstream. Even before the Consumer Electronics Show 2015 Samsung had announced that all of its 2015 Smart TVs will be powered by Tizen. Sure enough we saw that in the flesh at CES 2015.

“But, these devices are just the tip of the iceberg,” writes Samsung, saying that Tizen is a big part of the company’s Internet of Things strategy which covers all device categories that the company is in.

According to Samsung one of the biggest benefits of Tizen is that it is “lighter” than rival operating systems, which means that it needs less memory and processing power, and thus enabling faster performance with low energy consumption at least in theory.

The company imagines a future where its products like washing machines, vacuum cleaners and other similar devices that require relatively less computing power will run on Tizen. Its wearable devices already do.

Despite the fact that 2015 will be a big year for Tizen according to Samsung, the company says that this doesn’t mean it will be abandoning other operating systems, so don’t expect Samsung’s Android smartphones and tablets to just disappear. It may take a considerable amount of time before majority of Samsung’s mobile devices are shifted from Android.
