We’re sure there has to be at least once or twice where you accidentally tripped on or have your headphone cable caught onto something, yanking it off your ears or in some cases, even ripping it out of the headphone port on your media device. It’s a painful experience especially if your headphones are of the expensive kind.

The good news is that a Kickstarter project for a device called the Magzet hopes to change that. The idea is simple – create a headphone cable whose concept is along the lines of Apple’s MagSafe connector, meaning that your headphone cables are connected to your device via a magnet. In the event that it gets pulled out, the magnets will disengage lightly and there will be minimal damage to your headphones or your device.

The Magzet comes in two parts – the MagJack which is the portion that’s inserted into your headphone jack, and the MagKap which then plugs into the headphone port of your device. The added benefit here is that ultimately it will also reduce the wear and tear that comes from inserting and removing headphone cables.

For users worried about audio quality or interference, its creators claim to have solved the problem and that the audio quality is supposedly “superb”. The Magzet is definitely not the first of its kind but if you’re interested in giving them a helping hand in funding their project, head on over to their Kickstarter page for the details.
