According to a tweet by Microsoft enthusiast, Bavo Luysterborg, he has suggested that Microsoft’s Project Spartan will not be supporting extensions at launch, but has instead hinted that the support for extensions will come at a later date. This contradicts an earlier report in which Microsoft stated that extensions would be supported.
However to be fair, the earlier statement provided by Microsoft stated that they had plans for extensions and that they would be part of a future update to Project Spartan. We suppose many had assumed that by the time Windows 10 was rolled out to users that extensions would already be supported, but if Luysterborg’s tweet is anything to go by, that will not happen.
It is unclear as to why Microsoft might not launch Project Spartan with extension support for now, but given that this is hardly an official statement from Microsoft, do take it with a grain of salt for now. Users who don’t rely on extensions probably have nothing to be concerned about, but if you rely heavily on extensions which in many cases helps make browsing a lot better and more convenient, then you could be out of luck.
Microsoft’s Windows 10 operating system is expected to be released this summer and hopefully by then we will have learnt more about Project Spartan and whether extensions will be supported at launch.
