Sony has made no secret of the fact that it’s working on a virtual reality headset that’s currently known as Project Morpheus. However Sony has not yet revealed precisely when it’s going to launch this headset. Previous reports suggest that it might be released in June 2016. Sony has not confirmed this timeframe. A new report out of Japan today claims that Sony will launch Project Morpheus before June 2016.

Things are certainly heating up in the virtual reality arena. Oculus is gearing up for the commercial launch of the Rift headset. On the other hand companies like Samsung have already pushed out two generations of their cheap headsets that require a smartphone to function as the display.

HTC is also jumping in the game with Valve, the duo are working on the Vive VR headset that was unveiled just a few weeks back to the public.

Japanese publication Asahi claims that Sony is going to release Project Morpheus VR headset before June 2016. However the report does not go on to make it clear whether this is the release timeframe for the Japanese market or if this is when the headset will be released globally.

Sony is tightlipped on the matter and has not confirmed or denied this possible release timeframe for its virtual reality headset.
