NEST-smart-thermostat-01For a while it was interesting that despite the fact that Google now owns Nest that Apple actually continued to sell their products in their stores. However it seems that has changed because according to reports, it looks like Apple’s online and physical retail stores are no longer carrying any of Nest’s products.

Apple has since confirmed to the folks at Mashable that this is indeed the case, just in case you were wondering if maybe this had to do with inventory issues, restocking, or maybe a glitch. It is unclear as to why Apple decided to pull Nest from their shelves, but this move came after several home products that worked with Apple’s HomeKit made their way online.

Naturally Apple would want to promote products that relied on HomeKit since it would help the ecosystem grow, so by removing Nest from the picture, customers would be more inclined to purchase HomeKit compatible devices. Of course this is just speculation but it hardly seems like coincidence, right?

That being said if you really do want a connected thermostat, Apple has an alternative to the Nest smart thermostat in the form of the Ecobee 3. Of course it won’t be 100% the same as Nest, but if you were after a product that would offer tighter integration with your iOS devices, then this could be worth your consideration.
