There are many out there who feel that services such as Uber are taking jobs away from regular cab drivers. Whether or not you believe this is the case is a debate for another day, but in the meantime it seems that over in New York City, an app by the name of Arro will be trialed in an attempt to give NYC cabs a more competitive edge.

In fact the app itself functions more or less similar to how Uber’s own app works. When it is used to hail a cab, the driver will see your name and location on their screen. In turn when your fare has been accepted, you will then receive the driver’s name and medallion number, and it will also be able to save your credit card details so you can use the app to pay for your fare and even tip your driver.

Best of all, it seems that there will not be any surge pricing meaning that what you see on the screen is what you will have to pay. It is also backed by Creative Mobile Technologies, the same company behind the video screens and payment systems used by as many as 20,000 different taxis in the city, so safe to say they know what they are doing.

At the moment the Arro app will only work in NYC at its time of launch, but the company behind the app expects to eventually expand to other cities in the US such as San Francisco, Washington D.C., Chicago, and Boston, just to name a few. To learn more or to participate in the app’s trial, hit up Arro’s website for the details.
