vtt sleep sensorWant to track the quality of your sleep? At the moment there are apps and wearables that can do that for you, but those usually base it on how often you toss and turn in your sleep, which in turn determines whether or not you are in a REM cycle. However a Finnish company by the name of VTT has developed a gas sensor that can be attached to your smartphone.

So how will a gas sensor help with your sleep quality? Basically the idea is to try and measure if there are any substances in the air that might be affecting your sleep, like measuring the levels of carbon dioxide in your room. According to Anna Rissanen, leader of the VTT research team, “Many day-to-day issues, such as precision and efficiency in the workplace, can depend on carbon dioxide levels and internal air quality.”

That being said, this gas sensor developed by VTT isn’t the first of its kind. We have seen similar sleep trackers in the past, like the Sense sleep tracker which can detect other external factors such as noise, ambient light, temperature, humidity, and more. However we suppose the upside is that VTT’s solution is a smartphone attachment that makes it smaller and easier to bring with you.

The company states that they believe mass production can begin, but when it will be ready for the masses and sold commercially remains to be seen. In the meantime what do you guys make the tech? Is this something you might be interested in?
