hugo barra xiaomiXiaomi is a company you’ve probably heard about even though for the most part, the company’s smartphones aren’t available for purchase in the US. However it seems that despite the fact that the company seems to operate largely in Asia, they are doing pretty well. In fact they are doing well enough where they have claimed the number one spot in China.

Previously companies such as Apple and Samsung have enjoyed their positions at the top of the list, but it looks like today Xiaomi will be stealing their spot. This is based on data from two analysts firms, with Canalys stating that Xiaomi actually accounted for 15.9% of smartphone shipments in the country.

In fact Xiaomi appears to have done better than its China rival Huawei who has been in the game for much longer than they have. Huawei is currently commanding the second place in the ranks, although it seems that they did come pretty close with total shipments of 15.7%. Coming in third place is actually Apple.

Apple’s shipments in China is estimated to be around 12.2%, with Vivo coming in fourth at 8.1%. Samsung unfortunately came fifth so it looks like the South Korean tech giant has to seriously pick up the slack. Canalys offers that both Apple and Samsung have been hard at work trying to regain their market share by launching more flagship stores and offering their products through medium-sized retailers as well.
