spotify_found_them_firstOne of the perks of online music streaming services is that it lets you listen to all kinds of artists for a flat fee. Sometimes these artists might be relatively unknown, but perhaps thanks to you listening to them, sharing them with your friends, and your friends sharing it with their friends, they are starting to gain more recognition.

Now if you’re curious as to whether or not there are any artists that you might have had a helping hand in making them big, Spotify has the answers for you. The company has recently launched a feature called Found Them First. Basically this feature will take a looking at your listening history on Spotify meaning you will need a Spotify account.

From there, it will be able to tell you if you were in the artist’s first 1-15% of listeners, and if you are, chances are you might have played a small role in helping that artist “breakout”, which Spotify has defined as having more than 20 million streams, and a growth rate of 2,000% from January 2013 to June 2015.

According to Jackie Jantos, Spotify’s VP of creative and brand strategy, “This experience is an ode to the fans who truly love discovering new artists. Users are rewarded for listening early on, and earn some bragging rights.” Admittedly it is a rather novel feature, but if you’ve always considered that you’ve had an eye on potential hits, this feature could help prove yourself right. Or wrong.
